Hi, and welcome to My Eco Closet. I’m Sesily Beridze, and this blog is run by me – just one person who loves a thoughtful wardrobe. This page explains what information I collect when you visit, why I collect it, and what choices you have about it. I’ve tried to write it in plain English (because who actually reads the fine print?).

If you have any questions after reading this, you can always reach me at sesily@myecocloset.com.

Who I am

My Eco Closet (https://www.myecocloset.com) is owned and operated by Sesily Beridze, based in Tbilisi, Georgia. For the purposes of data protection law, I’m the “data controller” of any personal information collected through this site.

What information I collect

Information you give me directly

  • Email newsletter. When you sign up for my newsletter, I collect your email address and, if you choose to share it, your first name. That’s it.
  • Comments. If you leave a comment on a post, I collect the name and email address you enter, the comment itself, and your IP address (this helps catch spam).
  • Contact form or email. If you write to me, I’ll have whatever you choose to include in your message, along with your email address so I can reply.

Information collected automatically

When you browse the site, some information is collected automatically through cookies and similar technologies. This can include your IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you visit, how long you stay, and the site that referred you here. I use Google Analytics to understand this in aggregate – I see that “200 people read the capsule wardrobe post,” not that you specifically did.

For more detail on this, please see my Cookie Policy.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site are affiliate links. When you click one, the retailer or affiliate network may set a cookie so they can tell that you came from My Eco Closet. I don’t receive your personal information from these clicks – I only see anonymised reports of clicks and purchases. See my Affiliate Disclosure for more on how this works.

How I use your information

I use the information I collect to:

  • Send you my newsletter, if you’ve signed up for it
  • Reply to your comments and messages
  • Understand which posts people enjoy so I can write more of them
  • Keep the site running smoothly and protect it from spam and abuse
  • Comply with any legal obligations I might have

I do not sell your personal information. Ever.

Legal basis for processing (for readers in the UK and EU)

Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, I rely on the following legal bases:

  • Consent – for sending you the newsletter and for non-essential cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interests – for site analytics, spam protection, and replying to your messages. I’ve considered your interests here and don’t believe this processing overrides your rights.
  • Legal obligation – where I need to keep records to comply with the law.

Who I share your information with

I don’t share your personal information with anyone except the trusted services I need to run the blog:

  • Email service: MailerLite stores my subscriber list and sends the newsletter on my behalf.
  • Website hosting and platform: Hostinger (WordPress) hosts the site and processes visitor data as part of that.
  • Analytics: Google Analytics helps me understand site traffic.
  • Comment and spam filtering: Akismet.
  • Affiliate networks and retailers: such as ImpactBytes and Amazon Associates, who process click data through their own cookies under their own privacy policies.

Each of these providers has its own privacy policy, and I’d encourage you to read them. I may also share information if I’m legally required to (for example, in response to a valid legal request).

International transfers

I’m based in Tbilisi, Georgia, and some of the services listed above are based in the United States or elsewhere. This means your information may be transferred to and stored in countries outside your own. Where required, these transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

How long I keep your information

  • Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe. After that, your email address is removed from my active list (my email provider may keep a suppression record so I don’t accidentally email you again).
  • Comments: for as long as the post remains published, unless you ask me to remove them.
  • Contact messages: for as long as I need them to reply and follow up, usually no more than 12 months.
  • Analytics data: retained according to my analytics provider’s settings, currently 26 months.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information I hold about you
  • Correct anything that’s inaccurate
  • Delete your information (“right to be forgotten”)
  • Object to or restrict how I process it
  • Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time – every newsletter has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, and it works instantly

To exercise any of these rights, email me at sesily@myecocloset.com and I’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re in the UK or EU and you’re not happy with how I’ve handled your information, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

California residents: under the CCPA/CPRA, you have the right to know what personal information I collect, to request its deletion, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. I don’t sell personal information. Some analytics and advertising cookies may count as “sharing” under California law – you can opt out through my cookie settings or your browser’s Global Privacy Control signal.

Children’s privacy

My Eco Closet isn’t directed at children under 16, and I don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given me their information, please get in touch and I’ll delete it.

Security

I take reasonable steps to keep your information safe – the site uses HTTPS, and I only work with reputable providers. That said, no website can promise perfect security, so please don’t share sensitive information through comments or contact forms.

Links to other sites

I link to lots of other websites – shops, brands, other bloggers. Once you leave My Eco Closet, their privacy policies apply, not mine.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time. When I do, I’ll change the “last updated” date at the top, and for any significant changes I’ll mention it in the newsletter.
