I want to be completely upfront with you about how this blog makes money, because I think you deserve to know… and honestly, it’s not very complicated.
The short version
Some of the links on My Eco Closet are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, I may earn a small commission. It costs you nothing extra – the price is exactly the same whether you arrive through my link or type the shop’s address in yourself. The retailer simply pays me a little something for sending you their way.
What that actually means
When I write about a linen shirt I’ve worn for three summers, or a pair of boots that finally didn’t give me blisters, I’ll often link to where you can find it. Some of those links are affiliate links, some aren’t, it depends on whether the brand has a program. Either way, I link to things because I think they’re worth your attention, not because of the commission.
The commissions are small (we’re talking a few percent, usually), but they add up to help cover hosting costs, the occasional photography prop, and the many, MANY hours that go into researching and writing here. So if you’ve ever bought something through one of my links, thank you. Truly. It’s a big part of what keeps this blog going.
The programs I belong to
I’m a participant in the following affiliate programs:
- Amazon Associates: as an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.
(I’ll keep this list updated as things change.)
What I promise you
- I’ll only recommend things I’d tell a friend about. If I wouldn’t buy it (or haven’t at least seriously considered it), it doesn’t get a link.
- My opinions are my own. Affiliate relationships don’t influence what I say about a product. If something disappoints me, I’ll tell you — commission or not.
- I’ll mark it. Posts containing affiliate links will have a short disclosure near the top, so you’re never caught off guard.
- Sponsored content will always be labelled. If a brand ever pays me to write a post, or sends me something for free to review, I’ll say so clearly at the beginning of that post. (This is different from affiliate links, where I’m just linking to things I’ve chosen myself.)
How the tracking works, briefly
When you click an affiliate link, the retailer places a small cookie in your browser so they know you came from here. I don’t see your name, your address, or what else you’ve bought — just an anonymous tally of clicks and commissions. You can read more about this in my Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy.
Questions?
If any of this is unclear, or you’d like to know whether a specific link is an affiliate link, just ask. I’m at sesily@myecocloset.com and I’m always happy to explain.
