This page explains what cookies are, which ones My Eco Closet uses, and how you can control them. It works alongside my Privacy Policy, which covers the bigger picture of how I handle your information.

What are cookies?

Cookies are tiny text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They help the site remember things – that you’ve already closed a pop-up, for example, or the name you typed into the comment box last time. Some are set by me (first-party cookies), and some are set by other services I use, like my analytics tool (third-party cookies).

Cookies can be session cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or persistent cookies (they stay on your device for a set period, or until you delete them).

The cookies I use

1. Strictly necessary cookies

These are needed for the site to work properly. They don’t require your consent, and switching them off would break things.

CookieSet byPurposeDuration
cmplz_*Complianz (cookie consent)Remembers the cookie choices you made in the banner1 year
wordpress_*, wp-settings-*WordPressKeeps me logged in when I’m editing the site (only set if you log in)Session / up to 1 year

2. Functional cookies

These remember choices you’ve made so you don’t have to repeat them.

CookieSet byPurposeDuration
comment_author_*WordPressRemembers your name, email, and website in the comment form1 year
ml_* / mailerlite_*MailerLiteRemembers whether you’ve seen, closed, or completed the newsletter signup form, so it doesn’t keep popping upUp to 1 year

3. Analytics cookies

I use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site, which posts are popular, how visitors find me, whether they read on a phone or a laptop. The data is aggregated and I can’t identify you personally from it. These cookies are only set if you accept them in the cookie banner.

CookieSet byPurposeDuration
_gaGoogle AnalyticsDistinguishes one visitor from another2 years
_ga_*Google AnalyticsKeeps track of your session and page views2 years

You can read more about how Google uses this data in Google’s privacy policy.

4. Affiliate cookies (set on other sites, not this one)

Some of my links are affiliate links. When you click one, the retailer or affiliate network sets a cookie on their site so they know you came from My Eco Closet. Those cookies aren’t stored by this website and I don’t control them – they’re governed by the retailer’s own policy. I mention them here because I’d rather you knew how the whole thing works. See my Affiliate Disclosure for the full picture.

5. Embedded content

Occasionally a post includes embedded content from another site – a YouTube video, a Pinterest board, an Instagram post. Those sites may set their own cookies when the content loads, exactly as if you’d visited them directly. Where possible, I block these until you’ve accepted cookies in the banner.

Your choices

Cookie banner. On your first visit you’ll see a banner letting you accept or reject non-essential cookies (that’s analytics, and any embedded content). You can change your mind at any time by clicking “Manage cookies” in the footer.

Browser settings. Every browser lets you view, block, and delete cookies:

Blocking all cookies may mean the comment form forgets you and the newsletter pop-up reappears, but the site itself will still work.

Opting out of Google Analytics everywhere. Google offers an opt-out browser add-on that stops Google Analytics from collecting your data on any site.

Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, I’ll treat it as a request to opt out of non-essential cookies.

Changes to this policy

I’ll update this page if the cookies I use change. The “last updated” date at the top will tell you when that last happened.
